New Normal is not the Old Normal
This Milton Friedman perspective enables us a jumping off point to exploring modern realities. When considering ways to productively discuss our position relative to modernity with a mission to operationalize our potential productively. The short video is thought-provoking. As a Libertarian economist, his views are undeniably sound—if individuals are self-sufficient and have access to knowledge and insights. However, while Libertarianism is a compelling framework, it becomes unrealistic when applied at mass scale. That said, this discussion isn’t about a philosophical or political divide. Rather, Friedman’s insights provoke quality thought on the interconnectedness of systems.

Globalization and the Supply-Demand Process
Globalization thrives on the principles of supply and demand, a process that Friedman articulates effectively from an economic standpoint. We are globally tethered to this system—it is the backbone of sustainable life. Every connection within this system can be identified and traced bidirectionally, demonstrating its intricate interdependence. NOTE: It is true that Victorian rule and banking policies laid the foundation for this global structure. However, debating its historical implications has become unproductive. This system is the basis of modern civilization in 2024.
The Debate: Entangling Responsibility
The more relevant discussion is not whether globalization is right or wrong, but rather the entanglement of personal, professional, social, and fiscal responsibilities within it. Why is this significant? Because for 8 billion people, health is wealth.
Health and Wealth: Interconnected and Complex
These two words—”health” and “wealth”—are far from simple labels. They represent broad, deep concepts, intrinsically linked to the global system. Each individual connects to the broader framework of modernity, with the Internet of Things (IoT) and packetized data driving continual learning and feedback loops that become embodied over time.
Achieving health, care, and well-being demands a total systems view. The Demosophic Framework defines this as the Communications and Information Layer—an accessible and available resource for all.
A Resource Like Oil: Tapping the Communications and Information Layer
This layer is akin to an oil deposit: it can be identified, mined, and tapped. Properly utilized, it enables the creation of environments where:
- Innovation,
- Cooperation, and
- Collaboration
can flourish.
These environments become problem-solution-oriented opportunity zones, fostering scalable solutions to global challenges.
The Role of Trust and Relationships
This system functions only if trust binds its organizing principles. Trust allows layers of responsibility and opportunity to grow and thrive. These layers are:
- Human-made alliances, developed over national agreements and contracts.
- Relationships, the real drivers of mutual value. Handshakes, agreements, and shared principles form the structural integrity that keeps the system operational.
Freedom of Speech and Communication
In the digital age, structural integrity translates to the freedom of communication and information. This encompasses voice, video, and data communications—all essential for the free flow of ideas and the sustainability of global systems.
When these connections work properly, they enable:
- Creativity,
- Procurement,
- Assembly, and
- Provisioning of products and services
to deliver Return-on-Actual-Value (RoAV).
Sustainability and Just-in-Time Principles
Sustainability in this interconnected world requires communication and information to provide value at the right time, place, and purpose—the essence of just-in-time philosophy.
In a data-driven environment, this principle unlocks the ability to:
- Enhance knowledge and understanding for individuals and communities,
- Support personal, professional, and social wellness, and
- Empower better decision-making and resource allocation.
Health Currency: Information as the New Exchange
Ultimately, this system enables health currency, where essential information is exchanged for personal and societal benefit. This is a transformational shift—health data becomes a medium of exchange that enhances well-being and equity across global systems.
The New Normal?
This position suggests a paradigm shift that breaks open traditional economic and social frameworks, presenting a new way to think about sustainability, interconnectedness, and global well-being.
